Setting up the Lab
Regenerate 1.0 partnership
Challenge
The making of the makers space !? While most of the -1 floor space of the school was historically used for storage, it was necessary for us to create a dedicated space – literally and mentally– for the Be-Lab. Redefining a clean workshop area with clear way finding, work tables, a small teaching zone, secured machinery areas while existing in parallel with the student open workshop, was not a simple affair, partly because access to machines, level of expertise, and security issues differ from one to the other.
Solution
We set up studio with 100% recycled furniture, found thanks to the local nonprofit The GreenBee association, which facilitates trade fair donations to local organizations seeking circular solutions - which were in very decent state, lucky us! The installation happened with lots of hard work from our lab manager, helped by students and volunteers.
Impact
The newly designed space gave visibility to the activities of the Be-Lab, wherein all hands-on classes took place, where students were able to experiment with various processes, homemade biomaterials and where work tables could be turned into temporary showrooms and events were hosted during France Design Week 2025 as well as throughout the year to build the community of Be-Lab.
The Be-Lab furniture was build with the donation of materials and furniture from GreenBee Event Upcycling.
